Detroit Diesel 8V92 is ready to enter the workshop for the major overhaul. Customer complaint - coolant in sump, white smoke, poor power.


 
 

Shown the engine governor cover. An amulsion is clear visible (instead of engine oil)


 
 

The root cause of coolant leak into the sump is found. Failure of the engine aftercooler.


 
 

Overhauled engine is prepared for transportation to the customer. Oil pump, fuel transfer pump, cylinder heads are rebuild. Cylinder packs, bearings, aftercooler and injectors are replaced. Cooling system is pressurized/tested. Fuel system is adjusted. Starting the engine up, test - OK.
